Things to Do in Gurugram This Weekend (Besides the Mall)

If you've lived in Gurugram for more than a year, you already know the rotation: a mall, a restaurant inside that mall, maybe a movie, and if you're feeling adventurous, a rooftop with the same six cocktails as every other rooftop. None of these are bad - they just stop being memorable around the fourth time.

Ask ten people in Gurugram what they did last weekend and at least seven will mention Cyber Hub, Ambience Mall or DLF Mega Mall in some combination. The city has excellent infrastructure for eating and shopping, and almost no default plan for actually doing something.

The easy fix most people reach for is “let's just go somewhere new” - a new restaurant, a new mall, a new rooftop. But that's a change of location, not a change of experience. You're still sitting, still ordering, still scrolling your phone between courses.

What actually breaks the pattern is doing something with a start, a middle and an end - something where you walk out having made a decision, solved a problem, or won (or lost) at something, instead of just having eaten well. Bowling, go-karting and escape rooms solve this partially, but most people here have already done all three more than once.

One option a lot of Gurugram hasn't tried yet: a real-world treasure hunt that plays out across an actual neighbourhood instead of a rented room. Asterisk Society runs exactly this - teams get a dossier the day before, meet a handler at a real street corner, and spend the next couple of hours solving clues hidden in shopfronts, signboards and conversations with actors planted in the crowd. No padlocks, no hidden key under a table - just your own city, used as the set.

It's a genuinely different kind of weekend plan. You'll still end up at a restaurant afterward, arguing about who figured out the final clue - you'll just get there having actually done something first.
